“Press release 6.12.2024 Fin Aid is organising a holiday from war for Ukrainian children and young people.
Children can be deprived of their childhood but no one can take away their dreams”
Last year, we visited Dnipro, Solone village and Nikopol
to make children’s Christmas wishes come true. The letters we read wished
for a calm sky, for playing with friends and for dad to come back, to
go to school. The wishes were hard to grant, but everyone got a present. One
wish was heard on the spot and was made possible this year.
We can organise a trip to Finnish Lapland for them. A holiday from the war. I sent the following invitation text to the children and young people of Nikopol so that they could
apply to the state for support for the trip. “Dear children from the town of Nikopol, It is a pleasure and an honour to invite you to spend Christmas in Finland. From 17th to 27th December 2024,
we will organise an unforgettable trip for you, during which you will
experience the magic of Finnish winter, go down the hill, meet Santa Claus and
enjoy the peace and quiet and the peaceful sky. We hope that this trip will bring joy and warmth to your heart and give you a little
moment of respite.
Santa Claus, the Christmas tree and the elves are looking forward to seeing you and together
with us they want to create a memorable Christmas for you… Fin Aid ry, a Finnish non-governmental charity organisation, is organising this
winter a Peace Truck Trip for the children of Nikopol, Ukraine. The aim of the event
is to offer children living in the midst of war the opportunity to experience
a safe and joyful winter experience in Finland. The Peace Truck Trip is carried out with the support of volunteers and donors.
Fin Aid
is currently collecting sleeping bags, sleeping pads, treats and Christmas gifts.
We have already had a great response from businesses and communities. Young people and children
can play football with the main league players,
say hello to a real Santa Claus, try ice fishing and relax
in a Finnish sauna.
Christmas Eve will be spent in Lapland, Rovaniemi, Syväsenvaarankoulu and
Aapakirko. Eva Kivinen
